Your Spring Must-Haves

Now that we are officially in the interim between the end of winter and the blooming of spring, let's talk trends. What must we have for this spring?

Safari! Michael Kors did a very good job of mixing bright yellows and oranges with fierce animal print. I love how he added the tie-dye effect to this fabulous dress
Yellow! Oscar De La Renta rings the words classy-chic. This jaw-dropping piece is absolutely the perfect mix between exuberance and poised.
Cable Sweaters! J'adore cable sweaters! Being in college has made me a huge fan of big and this Isabel Marant sweater is fabulously grungy (if those two words could possibly be put together Marant was successful at it!).

Studs! This Versace gold-studded dress with leather trim is perfect for any night out. I love versatile and this dress could be subtle with a sweater and flats or exquisite with heels.
DVF! Diane Von Frustenburg is one of my favorite designers. I love her fabric and her vivid colors. I just recently bought my first DVF dress and the emerald green is to die for! This 1950s blue print dress is so  fabulous it must be in your summer wardrobe!

White! You cannot embark on spring without a paper-white dress. Sophie Theallet is on point with this number!

Balance is Essentially Elegant

“Life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and laughter is life’s sweetest creation.” – Papyrus

This quote is simply perfect. I read it this past Sunday and it has been with me since. It sums up my outlook on life. The key to success and happiness in life is balance. Balance is essential. People may achieve balance in different ways, but I achieve balance through my faith, relationships with my friends and family, and exercise. When one of those is missing, I feel array. I constantly remind myself of balance. We need to remember how beautiful life is and how kindness goes so far. Be kind, smile, think of others! Turmoil happens, but who we are inside pulls us through; happiness, sadness, anger, and joy are all our decisions. Turmoil ends, life is much bigger than the little things that we think are so important. We choose how we want to act. Act in a way that brings joy to the world. Balance. Balance. Find what balances you and hold on to it.

"Truly a Fashion Moment"

What better way to begin Valentine's Day by watching the Tory Burch fashion show live with my Starbucks coffee in hand? There isn't! Two of my loves on the day of love...as I sat in class, my eyes were glued to my computer screen eagerly awaiting the start of the show! My heart was racing with excitement and anticipation. I was thrilled with high energy. The energy from the venue came thru the computer screen. The venue, like the collection, was flawless. The high glass windows that allowed the natural light to shine thru to the Grace Studio Wallpaper looked so chic, perfect city venue. Tory Burch described the runway as a "hotel lobby"--what a perfect liaison between her inspiration from her travels to the fashion show. I was constantly gazing into the audience to see who was there and what they were wearing. The who's who of fashion were there from Anna Wintour to Bill Cunningham. Everyone looked so regal and elegant.

Around 9:27 am, the first model strutted down the runway- the show had begun! I was in such awe! I was in amazement, trying to write notes on every outfit from the hair and makeup to the pieces of clothing to the shoes. At this moment (as I already knew, this just highly reinforced it), I knew that this is where I belong...thinking about everything that goes into creating and putting on the show made me want to be apart of the fashion world that much more. Think about making the seating chart, creating the collection, the model's looks,  turning the venue into something special, blogging about the show and so much more--I knew and know that this is where I want to be. I want to be part of this. This is my love.

So about the Tory Burch Fall 2012 Collection- simply elegant, chic, regal. The colors consisted of beautiful deep tones of cream, jade, burgundy and golds. My favorite accents of the collection were the addition of the sequins- perfect touch of sparkle! Who doesn't want a little sparkle in their life? as well as the sheer tops on the dresses and blouses! I can't get enough of the sheer. I will be adding sheer elements to my upcoming wardrobe. The natural  makeup with the smoky eye is what I love. The hair up, with headpieces, my kind of thing! Embellishments on the sweaters! Tights are a must for fall, so go ahead and start looking. The tweeds, rich patterns, ribbon and jackets were to die for. I could go on and on in detail about this beautiful collection. I love this show because I felt like I could take it and wear it. Perfection.

This post is all over the place, but I am just trying to express my excitement, love, and awe of viewing the Tory Burch fashion show live! It is my dream to be running around at the MBFW Fall 2012.

This day was filled with things I love: Tory Burch, Starbucks, determination, motivation, encouragement, family, friends, fashion, NYC, fast-paced, planned to the detail events!

Thank you Tory Burch for live streaming your show!

In love....

February is one of my favorite months! I adore the color pink and the red hearts. And of course I am mesmerized by that 4 letter word that no one really can define, the word that is the backdrop of the 14th of February: love! While sipping my venti misto this morning, staring at the classic cup (which I consider an accessory to any outfit) complete with the new crimson holiday heart, my mind began wandering on what I can look at and say, without hesitation, that I love. For starters, I love my J Crew No. 2 pencil skirt that I am currently wearing. The simplicity of a pencil skirt makes any woman look striking. I love my job downtown. I thrive in the sophistication, movement, learning, and brilliance of a city environment. There is something glamourous about the city, especially Raleigh. I love my clothes; the art that I wear daily. And I LOVE my gorgeous friends and family because without them I would be helplessly lost! What do you love? Even though we cannot describe it, we all know the feeling and that's what is most important this Valentine's Day. Seek out what you love and grab hold of it! And to think, this all started with a misto... mwah!

The Eve of Fashion Week 2012

It's that time of year again, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012. Designers, fashion companies, models, hair and makeup artists, journalists, bloggers, buyers, socialites, spectators, and many more come together to witness, enjoy, and partake in the wonderful world of fashion. Everyone part of this event working feverishly for a flawless presentation of their upcoming collection--intensity, energy, emotions.  Long hours, long days, but it all pays off--I want to be apart of this craziness! Last year I was in NYC during fashion week, unfortunately I was not in the Lincoln Center, but the high energy in the city during this event gave me the motivation and determination to one day be apart and AT NYFW.

A designer's collection and fashion is so much more than fabric stitched together, but it is the collaboration of their passions to create a masterpiece for us, as the consumers and spectators to enjoy. This past week I was at Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale, Arizona, while walking around the mall through Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Tory Burch and more, I was mesmerized and in awe of the clothing, shoes and accessories.  The spring's bright colors and color blocking is phenomenal. One should use their bodies as a canvas to present themselves in a classy and sophisticated manner. Walking through the stores, seeing the different collections inspires me. I want to be part of that! Bright colors make the world a better place. Color connects travel, fashion, nature, and people. Spring is a time of new growth, happiness, the sunshine and outdoors. So make the most and best of yourself. Use fashion to create a more confident and better you. Use whatever it may be to encourage and motivate yourself.

The Last Sunrise...

This is the last sunrise of 2011. These pictures were taken at the top of The Stairway to Heaven, a physically straining 3,922 step hike in Hawaii that makes any stair-climbing machine a walk in the park. My family and friends crawled/climbed three hours to reach the top and two of those hours were spent without a trail in the pitch black. To say the least, I was completely blind-sided on the nature of this hike, but it was well worth it despite needing a manicure after! mwah!

About Us

Hello! So, after getting coffee at a local shop we both realized that we are similar: Tylar is a senior and will be interning in NYC this summer in the fashion industry. I am a sophomore and plan on interning with a non-profit this summer and NYC the next! As we sat and chatted over a coffee, Tylar talking about traveling and me speaking about the fabulous life of a fashionista in New York,  we had an epiphany: what if we, together, started a blog about our adventures along with the fashion and art we encounter?  And this is where our story begins... Traveling (Tylar). Elegance (Elizabeth). Join us  as we encounter new cultures as well as new beauties with Traveling Elegance!
